Nickolay E Mladenov

Nickolay E. Mladenov is the Director General of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) since February 2022. Previously, he held key positions as the UN Under-Secretary General and Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (2015-2020) and UN Special Representative for Iraq (2013-2015). He also served as Bulgaria's Foreign (2010-2013) and Defence (2009) Minister, was a Member of the European Parliament (2007-2009) and served in Bulgaria's Parliament (2001-2005). He established the European Institute in Sofia (2000) and has been active in civil society. Recognized for his peace efforts, he received the Grand Star of the Order of Jerusalem in February 2021. Mr Mladenov holds degrees in War Studies from King's College London and International Relations from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia. Additionally, he is a Visiting Fellow with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and holds positions on various academic and institutional boards.
