Basir Feda

Head of Unit Afghanistan, Head of Unit Central/South Asia, Berghof Foundation

Basir Feda leads the Afghanistan/Central and Southeast Asia Units at the Berghof Foundation. Previously, he worked as a Project Officer for the project "Forms of Informal Governance in North and North-East Afghanistan" at the Berghof Foundation. Prior to joining the Berghof Foundation, Mr Feda worked with the political as well as development cooperation sections of the German Embassy in Kabul. He also worked with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on transfer of security responsibilities from International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). In addition to his focus on transition, Mr Feda's other main area of focus was peace-related work at UNAMA. He has published articles on governance in areas of limited statehood, including international interventions, state-building approaches in conflict and post-conflict settings. Mr Feda has worked as a consultant for key governance and development programs such as the Stabilization Program for North Afghanistan, water sector reform in Afghanistan, and German-sponsored governance programs in Pakistan. He holds a BA in Economics from Goa University and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin with a special focus on – among others – applied quantitative methods of data analysis.
