Dr Hamdok is a policy analyst/economist with over forty years of experience in addressing development challenges in Africa at the national, sub-regional and continent-wide levels. Over the years he has developed interest in policy-oriented research and analysis, focusing on issues of regional integration and trade, macroeconomics policies, governance, institutional analysis, public sector reforms and resource management. He is the author of countless publications on Africa development challenges including development finance, macroeconomics, governance and other related issues.
He was the Prime Minister of Sudan from 2019 – 2021. Amongst other positions, he previously acted as Senior Advisor Strategy and Partnerships at the Trade and Development Bank as well as Deputy Executive Secretary to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) from 2011 – 2018.
