On 17 April, watch the livestream of this panel from 14:00- 15:30 CEST.
Human rights and mediation are inextricably linked and depend on each other for success. Human rights actors often need mediators to achieve a lasting end to human rights violations and armed conflict, or to prevent its outbreak. In turn, mediators seeking sustainable peace agreements are more likely to succeed if they employ human rights tools to better understand conflicts, and to help parties design agreements that respond to the entirety of conflict drivers.
This panel fosters an exchange on how the practice of mediation can be improved through human rights. It will showcase the experience of seasoned practitioners at the intersection of both domains, and also feature examples of where a human rights-informed approach has opened space for peace negotiations or strengthened ongoing processes.
